This course is a beginning woodworking course with prime emphasis on the safe and proper operation of all woodworking machines. Demonstrations will be conducted on each individual machine showing the safety methods that must be utilized and the skills that can be acquired. Students will be tested on machines and must pass a safety test before lab work can begin. Upon completion of testing, students will build their own projects and begin to develop skills and safety habits essential for successful operation of a cabinet shop. WOODS II (Prerequisite: No. 1703 & No. 1705) No. 1715 | Course Credit: .5| Grade Level: 9 - 12 FORMERLY WOODS I The Woods II class allows students to gain more knowledge of the woods area while making an intermediate wood project. Along with safety and machine knowledge, the students must be able to draw and read a plan. While completing the requirement for this course, students will learn proper construction of their project, further knowledge of the machines, and techniques to properly finish their wood project. Woods III is a continuation of Woods II. Woods III will allow students to gain more time in the woods area to create a more unique and larger project. All woods courses should be taken in sequence. There will be a $45.00 fee for the class.Payment Plan Available. MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION I (Prerequisite: No. 1705) No. 1717 | Course Credit: .5 | Grade Level: 10 - 12
This course will enable students to identify, properly use, and maintain carpenter hand tools, portable tools, machines, and equipment. Skill development, safety, OSHA requirements, and work practices are areas stressed. Construction equipment is studied and utilized as lab and projects warrant. Small projects will be completed. MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION II (Prerequisite: No. 1717) No. 1718 | Course Credit: 1 (2 Hr. Block – 1 Qtr.)Grade Level: 11 - 12
The purpose of this course is to enhance the basic constructions principles, tool operation, and safe work practices learned in Intro. to Building Construction I. Projects include building storage sheds, small garages, and volunteering throughout the community. This is a great hands-on learning experience for all students. VOCATIONAL FURNITURE AND CASE I(BLOCK) (Prerequisite: No. 1716) No. 1725 | Course Credit: 1 | Grade Level: 11 - 12
This class allows students to gain more knowledge of the woods area while making an advanced project. Along with safety and machine knowledge, the students must be able to draw and read a plan of procedures. While completing the requirements for this course, students will learn proper construction of their project, further knowledge of the machines, and techniques to properly finish their wood project. Some of the projects built in this class consist of dressers, gun cabinets, entertainment centers, coffee table, benches, and hutches. Students may take this class more than once. Cost of the project is the student’s responsibility. Payment Plan Available. MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
VOCATIONAL FURNITURE AND CASE II (BLOCK) (Prerequisite: No. 1725) No. 1726 | Course Credit: 1 | Grade Level: 11 - 12
