SMALL GAS ENGINE TECHNOLOGY No. 1702 | Course Credit: .5 (1 articulated CLC credit) | Grade Level: 9 - 12
This course details the principles of power mechanics with special emphasis given to the two and four-stroke cycle in small gas engines. The use of tools, test equipment, and service manuals will be emphasized. Fee is $10.00. MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
This course offers a general overview of and opportunities for hands-on experience in the following areas: automotive careers, trade knowledge, shop safety, tools & equipment, lubrication systems, cooling & heating systems, and electrical systems. This class is required before taking Basic Vehicle Systems II. It is highly recommended that students taking this course have a driver’s license. Fee is $10.00. MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
Basic Vehicle Systems II is a continuation of Basic Vehicle Systems I. Areas to be covered include: shop safety, starting and charging systems, engine performance, suspension systems, steering systems, drivetrain systems, and brake systems. It is highly recommended that students taking this course have a driver’s license. Fee is $10.00. MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
Auto Tech I will focus on the fundamentals of safety, tools, equipment, careers, general maintenance, computer systems, tires, and suspension. Classroom and shop activities will simulate automotive service industry operations through the use of training aids, shop vehicles, and student or customer work when available. Auto Tech I will give the student a good foundation in the operation, maintenance, and repair of an automobile and prepare students for employment and/or more advanced training in a post-secondary program. Pre-requisite is Basic Vehicle Systems. Shop fee is 15.00. It is highly recommended that the student take Auto Tech I and Auto Tech II in the same year.
Pre-requisite: A valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance.MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
Auto Tech II will focus on the fundamentals of operation, maintenance and repair procedure for tools and equipment, shop safety, careers, engine diagnosis, engine repair, engine machining and rebuilding, automotive brake systems, and wheel alignment. Classroom and shop activities simulate automotive service industry operations through the use of training aids, shop vehicles, and/or student or customer work when available. With the completion of Auto Tech II, the student will have a good foundation in the operation, maintenance, and repair of an automobile which will prepare them for employment and/or more advanced training in a post-secondary automotive program.
Pre-requisite: Auto Tech I, a valid driver’s license, and proof of car insurance. It is highly recommended that Auto Tech I & II are taken in the same school year. Students may take this course more than once.
Shop fee is 25.00. MUST HAVE SAFETY GLASSES.
INTRO TO HEAVY EQUIPMENT No. 1724 | Course Credit: .5 | Grade Level: 12
This course is designed to provide knowledge and proper operation of tractor-trailer combination vehicles at entry-level industry skills. Students will learn Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations that regulate the commercial motor carrier industry. Knowledge of procedures and behaviors required will be provided to prepare students for truck driving employment. Students who successfully complete this course will have minimal skills for entry-level employment in the trucking field. Other trucks and vehicles that students will become familiar with are dump trucks, redi-mix, tractor-trailers, water trucks, and buses.
